about the game

As Smilesoft's second foray into monster-collecting RPGs, Network Adventure Bugsite Alpha and Beta were released for Game Boy Color in November of 2001. It was never released outside of Japan.

Limited Edition copies were the only ones sold with the Bug Sensor accessory that would plug into a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance. The Bug Sensor reacts to malignant viruses in-game, and is attatched to the main character's mobile PC. It flashes a light to let you know when a virus-infected enemgy Bug is approaching; the closer the enemy, the more rapidly it flashes.

Despite it being packaged for the first run production only, non-limited copies were never produced.

A manga based on the series was featured in Kodansha's Comic Bom Bom from 2001 to 2002, but never saw a release outside of the manga magazine.

Network Adventure Bugsite has unfortunately not left much of a footprint, on the verge of being forgotten compared to Smilesoft's more well-known series: Keitai Denjuu Telefang, which achieved a beloved cult status. What little merchandise Bugsite has is relatively hard to find; it's a shame, considering how fantastic the monster designs are and how beautiful its spritework is in-game.

My goal with this site is to document what makes this little series great, hoping it'll eventually find new life nearly 20 years after its release.
